Emergencies still happen even though it’s a holiday.

For that reason, firefighters, police and other emergency protection agencies go into work as if it were any other day.

A local restaurant notices their dedication and delivered them a special Italian treat today.

On a national holiday that encourages rest, some are still hard at work.

“Someone’s on every Labor Day and we're used to it. We work the holidays,” said Captain Adrian Thomas of the Dothan Fire Department.

For those like fire fighters laboring on Labor Day, Dothan Olive Garden representatives want to say thanks.

“They are here on a day that most people are off having to put in hard work and we just want to show that we appreciate what they're doing for us,” said Dothan Olive Garden Manager Brian Hayes.

Turns out food was the perfect gift.

“It's not every day you get a chance to get a restaurant come in and deliver you a meal like this,” said Thomas.

“Fire departments aren't the only ones that Olive Garden is thanking. Police departments, hospital emergency rooms and military bases will also be the recipients of some “hospitaliano,” said reporter Danielle Eldredge.

“Today we're just delivering to the one fire station next year we'll probably do a police department and rotate through,” said Hayes.

Captain Thomas says the meal couldn't have come at a better time.

“Of course we had a bad Saturday we had to bury one of our own and that was a real disappointment so we're going through that,” said Thomas.

The firefighters all agree, the food was a great moral booster.

More than 700 Olive Gardens nationally participate in this event.

This is the ninth year of their Labor Day "Hospitaliano."
