$900K Lawn Care Fee Outrages Veterans
A Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa is scheduled to pay nearly 900-thousand dollars for lawn care.

The high pricetag doesn't sit well with other lawn care companies who say they could do the job for less than half the cost. Now a formal protest has been filed over the contract bidding process to maintain the grounds at the Veteran's Hospital in Knoxville.
Dave Lovell and his sons cut the grass for a number of businesses in the Pella area. He said he submitted a bid to maintain the grounds at The Veterans Affairs Central Iowa Health Care System in Knoxville. His bid was 268-thousand. Another company Creative Landscaping submitted a bid for just over 342-thousand. And several others submitted lower bids.
But the project was awarded for more than twice the amount to Crossroads Hall for 871 thousand dollars.
A spokesperson for the V-A, Lisa Christie said that the bids received were evaluated equally and fairly but the company awarded the bid best represented the scope of the work that the project requires.
The mowing companies said they were told they didn't get the job because they bid too low, which has some taxpayers in the area concerned.
The V-A Central Iowa Health Care System said since a protest has been filed, the case would now go to litigation.
