Alabama Power's new Southeast Division Vice President Richard Hutto says this year's weather has made a big hit on customers' energy usage.
He told the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce Thursday that although they've lowered residential rates by 8% since last year kilowatt usage is up.
They're making a bigger push to help customers through the extremely hot or cold months by continuing project share and directing customers to community action agencies that can help them make payments.
"We're trying to redouble our efforts to work with our customers, to help them find ways to make their payments that are workable for them and take a little bit of the burden off of them right here, right now,” says Hutto.
He also says that customers that are struggling can call 1-800-245-2244 or come into the office to possibly work out a way to extend payments without penalty.
