Ozark Job Fair Attracts Hundreds of Potential Employees
Alabama's unemployment rate for July hit 9.7%. The lowest it's been in a year, but still above the national average of 9.5%.

Alabama's unemployment rate for July hit 9.7%. The lowest it's been in a year, but still above the national average of 9.5%.
But some unemployed residents are hoping to push that number down further today.
Potential employees poured into the Ozark Civic Center by the hundreds today, all looking for one thing, a job.
Congressman Bobby Bright told News 4 residents are looking for jobs across the district.
That's why he teamed up with local businesses and federal agencies to put on Thursday’s job fair.
“There's a lot of folks out there without jobs. There's a lot a lot of folks worried about having a job over a period of time and what this is an opportunity to get those groups together,” says Bright.
Katrina Spencer has a passion to care for the sick and is still looking for an open spot.
“I have four kids and a husband all living on one income and I’m just trying to find a job in the medical field,” says Spencer.
She's hoping the job fair will be the place to find it.
There are 35 employers with around 200 jobs available within the next month.
But for those trying to get that first foot in the door, they say the job market is still pretty tough.
“Slim to none. Nobody's hiring,” says potential employee Marshall Childree.
“Anything would be good right now, but my field would be great. But anything would do right now,” says Katrina.
“Jobs are there. Sometimes you have to take something that you're not totally pleased with but if you are a worker and you're honest and want to make your way sometimes you have to take a less paying job or a less influential position in order to make ends meet but in the long term it can mushroom into something much better,” says Bright.
By only an hour and half into the fair over 300 people had shown up.
