The effects of meth can easily be seen in the faces of those who use it.

It is a game of cat and mouse between meth dealers and police. Today meth remains as dangerous as ever and drug dealers have taken production mobile. The method is called "shake and bake" and it poses dangers to officers and the public.

"Shake and bake Nazi method and in this method as the cook is being produced there is a procedure where it is left open and gas is left off," Said Officer David.

"You end up with a container that becomes an explosive device and the containment of that plastic is not going to hold that pressure so it does let loose and when it does, the chemicals that are in there can cause hazard and do damage and cause harm to the persons in close facility," remarked Captain Antonio Gonzales of the Houston Co. Sheriffs Office.

The manufacturing of meth has been blamed for countless fires and deaths. Captain Gonzales says the by-product can be a serious health hazard.

"Those manufacturing in a home or a storage room in an apartment or their vehicle don't care where they expose their bio hazard material. So when they expose it, it is going to get in the ground maybe it gets around water or disposed in creeks or ponds or down a bath tub or toilet or a sink of a residential or rental home." Says Captain Gonzales

Some of the side effects of exposure to the chemicals in meth include damage to the kidney, spleen, brain and liver. They have also been linked to birth defects and possibly cancer.

Police say new laws restricting the purchase of pseudoephedrine have helped them in their fight against meth.
