If Hurricane Ivan stay on a projected path toward Alabama and disrupts electricity -- officials at Alabama Power said it could be a while before power is restored. Company spokesman Jan Ellis said if the storm knocks down transmission lines, some customers could be in the dark for up to two weeks.
Ellis said if that happens you need to be report the outage and try to be patient.
Alabama Power officials say they do have priority customers -- like hospitals and emergency services.
Meanwhile, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency urges citizens to purchase supplies, including canned foods, bread, water, batteries, candles, and gas cans.
