Governor Bob Riley has ordered the evacuation of Baldwin County coastal sites today as Hurricane Ivan roared into the Gulf of Mexico with the Alabama coast among possible points for landfall.
Riley, in a statement issued this morning said -- quote -- "this is a serious storm that requires serious action to get people out of harm's way."
He ordered the evacuation of residents in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan, coastal resorts where thousands of vacationers already had been packing and heading out.
Hurricane Ivan, now a Category Four storm, has moved into the Gulf of Mexico and is threatening to make landfall in the Florida panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana.
