A farmer's market recently opened up shop in Dothan. This new business is putting a simple twist on a summer tradition.

Dothan resident Rachel Butler is a fan of freshness.

“I like fresh vegetables, squash and tomatoes. You can just cook squash so many ways and they just taste good anyways and tomatoes are good on sandwiches,” said Butler.

That’s why she stopped at Kelley Farms Market on the circle. It’s one of the only farmer's markets in the area open year round.

“We grow stuff about year 'round anyway,”

This new business is a family affair for Ryan Kelley. Kelley, along with dad Billy Ray and Uncle Paul, decided to give the year-round farmer's market idea a try.

“Most everything will be year 'round. Tomatoes will be year ‘round, they won't be from here but they'll be year ‘round,” said Ryan Kelley.

He says some products will be more plentiful depending on the season.

“All of it that can be local will be local but obviously all of it can't be,”

Like in the spring time he'll have:

“Green beans, squash, cucumber, zucchini, eggplant, okra,”

Kelley says most farmers markets are only open two maybe three months out of the year. He says being open year round will help him serve a broader clientele.

“We've been looking for fresh fruit and we can't hardly find it now most of the places close down so we decided to stop by,”

Bob Vaughan likes the idea of a year-round farmer's market.

“I think it's great, I don't know how much fresh fruit you're going to be getting year round but I’ll still be coming back,” said Vaughan.

And Butler says she's looking forward to cooking up her favorite dish.

“I make squash casseroles and I always put cheese on it!” exclaimed Butler.

Kelley Farms Market is located on the Circle behind Outback Steakhouse.

Business hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
