Prison Van Crashes in Ebro; One Person Presumed Dead
Florida state troopers and area sheriffs’ deputies are searching the Choctawhatchee River after a private prisoner transportation vehicle collided with a pick up truck on Highway 20 in Ebro Tuesday.

Florida state troopers and area sheriffs’ deputies are searching the Choctawhatchee River after a private prisoner transportation vehicle collided with a pick up truck on Highway 20 in Ebro Tuesday.
At approximately 5:30 Tuesday morning, witnesses who live about a mile from the Ebro Dog Track say a pickup truck and van were completely torn apart after they collided on a bridge.
Nearby residents say a loud crash followed by horns woke them.
Police have now confirmed a prisoner transport van and pickup truck owned by Gulf Asphalt collided on the Olan Rex Ferguson Bridge, sending the driver of the truck into the water.
Lt. Steve Preston of the Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed crews are still searching the river.
The driver of the van is presumed to be dead.
The transport van was reportedly heading eastbound when it crossed the center-line and struck the F350 pickup truck.
"The three or four guys who were in the Gulf Asphalt truck, they were out and they were doing okay, but that was after I went into the van looking for the others in the front. There was a female officer on the passenger side; she got her door open and she got out and I asked her if she was the driver. She said she wasn't the driver, so I went looking for him, but could not find him," said Alvin McDonald, who was a witness to the accident.
There were a total of seven people involved in the crash.
Minor injuries have been reported by passengers and inmates in the van and those in the pickup truck.
Alcohol is not presumed to be a factor in this crash.
The search and investigation continue; charges are pending.
