Police are trying to figure out who broke into about ten cars at two different auto repair shops. Police say after the crime spree was over many cars had broken windows, and two were stolen.

Marianna police need your help to find those responsible for a string of thefts at two area auto repair shops. Rays Garage and M & B Pit Stop both reported car break-ins on their lots Wednesday night.

"They went through about five vehicles [and] plundered through the glove compartments and looked around through them. I reckon [they were] looking for change and such stuff as that," said Marcus Purecka, owner of the M & B Pit Stop.

Soon after arriving at the Pit Stop, police learned of the crimes at Rays Garage, located only a few hundred yards away.

"While investigating that incident we received a report that approximately 3-4 vehicles had been vandalized at Rays Garage, located on Penn avenue," remarked Cherre Edwards, of the Marianna Police Department.

Marcus Purecka, owner of the Pit Stop, says a 1998 Chevy Blazer with the keys left inside was stolen, but because of a water hose issue the crooks did not get far.

"They got in it and got it started and then they took off until it died,” said Purecka

Police found the Blazer abandoned on Clinton Street. When they performed a check on the license plates, they discovered that it belonged to another stolen vehicle.

"On the stolen 1998 Chevy Blazer, [the check] revealed that its tag was assigned to a vehicle that had been also taken on the same day from Rays Garage - a Toyota truck. That vehicle was later found submerged in the Chipola River underneath the Yantzy bridge," said Edwards.

The police say they are not sure why truck was dumped in the river. It could be because it suffered some sort of mechanical failure, like the Chevy Blazer.
