BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - This week's survey from the U.S. Drought Monitor is almost identical to last week's report.
The latest survey, released today, show the worst drought conditions continue to grip almost 49 percent of Alabama.
The areas under Exceptional drought are mainly in eastern Alabama. About 99 percent of the state remain under some stage of drought. The lone exception is the southern half of Mobile County.
Alabama is not alone. Northern Georgia, middle and east Tennessee, and small areas of Kentucky, North and South Carolina also are under the worst drought conditions.
Drought specialists predict the situation across the Southeast will improve through December.
