Plans are under way for a mass vaccination in Houston County. Right now the plan is still in the preliminary stages, but thousands in Houston County will get free flu shots.
This year's flu vaccination will differ from any other in the past because it serves a dual purpose. It’s intended to test the health department's ability to respond to a national event where mass numbers of people need to be vaccinated.
And, through federal funding 5,000 flu shots will be given free of charge. Houston County was one of only four counties chosen in Alabama to participate.
Again, this is still in the planning stages. More information will be available around the first of October.
