Dothan residents will start paying more for electricity next month.
City commissioners approved a 2.8 percent increase in electrical rates Tuesday.
Dothan is a member of the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority.
The organization helps the Circle City and 10 other communities purchase electricity at low rates for re-sale to customers.
Last month, the AMEA announced its first rate increase in 14 years.
Dothan officials say the last time they raised their rates was in 1986.
The rate hike takes effect October 8.
