Online Survey: Recycling

Another curbside recycling program is being explored for the city of Dothan, but before city commissioners’ move ahead they want to know what residents think about the idea.

A pilot program with one truck covering a single a route is being explored. Residents will be surveyed to gauge their interest in participating.

For more than 10-years, Dothan picked up paper, plastic and aluminum. But that program ended in 2004 after participation steadily declined.

Since then, the city has collected recyclables at three-drop-off points in the city.

Mayor Pat Thomas says public education will be a key to getting the curbside program going again.

“If we ever had a garbage tax that we would look at recycling again. Well, we don't have a garbage tax but we do have the revenues from the sales tax so we're going to look into being better stewards and take care of our landfill and take care of our environment," said Mayor Thomas.

You can check out Dothan’s online survey about recycling by logging on the city's website at www.dothan.org.

City commissioners plan to take up the recycling issue again in 3-weeks.
