MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's 4th grade students made more improvements in reading than any other state in the nation.
That's according to the National Assessment Governing Board, which released the Nation's Report Card.
The report rates states on how their students scored on National Assessment of Education Progress tests on reading and math.
Fourth grade and eighth grade students take the tests every two years.
State education officials say the improvements are due to the Alabama Reading Initiative and the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative.
