ATLANTA (AP) -- Veteran Atlanta news anchor Monica Pearson is retiring after 37 years with WSB-TV.
The station reports Pearson will lead her last newscast on July 25.
In 1975, Pearson became the first woman and the first minority to anchor the 6 p.m. news in Atlanta.
The Kentucky native began her career at The Louisville (Ky.) Times.
Pearson covered President Barack Obama's inauguration live from Washington, D.C., traveled to Norway to cover former President Jimmy Carter's acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 and anchored coverage of the 1996 Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta.
She's also conducted interviews with celebrities from Ray Charles to Sean Connery.
WSB-TV says veteran reporter Jovita Moore will temporarily co-anchor the 6 p.m. news until a replacement is found.
