MTV and cast members of the network’s reality show, Jersey Shore, are fighting back at popular clothing company, Abercrombie & Fitch.
Earlier this week, Abercrombie & Fitch released a statement saying the company would pay Jersey Shore cast members, specifically Mike “the Situation” Sorrentino, to NOT wear its clothing.
MTV released its own statement Thursday.
“It’s a clever PR stunt. We’d love to work with them on other ways they can leverage ‘Jersey Shore’ to reach the largest youth audience on television,” MTV said.
Abercrombie & Fitch’s request came a day before the company’s stock took a nearly ten percent drop.
Sorrentino gloated about the stock drop. He wrote “looks like Abercrombie got themselves into a Situation!” He also posted a link to a story detailing the company’s stock loss.
Another cast mate, Pauly Delvecchio, also hit the web over Abercrombie’s request. He posted a picture of an Abercrombie & Fitch shirt that had GTL on it. GTL is a catch phrase made famous by the case that stands for “gym, tan, laundry.”
Delvecchio posted by the picture, “hmm if they don’t want us to wear those clothes, why make GTL shirts.”
