ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Associated Press photographer Emilio Morenatti, who was wounded while on assignment in Afghanistan, has
won the top award for the National Press Photographers Association.
The group on Thursday named Morenatti its 2010 Photojournalist of the Year for large markets.
Morenatti lost his left foot after being wounded in August while with the U.S. military in southern Afghanistan.
Two U.S. soldiers and an AP Television News videographer, AndiJatmiko, were also injured when their vehicle ran over a bomb planted in the desert.
Morenatti was first taken to a hospital in Kandahar, Afghanistan, then later transferred to Baltimore, where he was fitted with a prosthesis and underwent rehabilitation.
Morenatti, a Spaniard, is returning to work for the AP next month. He will be based in Barcelona.
