DALEVILLE -- They've spent their lives taking care of their country and on Friday afternoon they got a chance for their community to care for them.
Army retirees and their family gathered at the Andrews Physical Fitness Center on Fort Rucker for the 39th Lyster Army Health Clinic. They received information on health care providers on and off-base. Approximately 35 off-post sponsors set up tables with information that provided health and dietary tips for the retirees and their loved ones.
Military visitors said it keeps them proactive about their health.
"I've got heart problems so I stopped by the table and got nutrition guides for heart health," Army veteran Milton Lassiter said. "My wife's got diabetes so she got information on that so that's helpful."
Fort Rucker offers 13 free health care clinics on-base per year to veterans. Sponsors said they want the veterans to know they are just as important as active-duty soldiers.
