Houston County buses are getting new equipment.
The current cameras use a digital recording system , which records video on a hard drive that can be removed from the bus.
The new system would be similar but have additional features like the capability to communicate with the bus driver with a texting feature if they need to communicate with the transportation department and an emergency phone call feature.
One of the main new additions, GPS tracking.
"The GPS tracking gives us the capability to track the bus where ever it goes and when ever it makes a stop. It also records the speeds and things of that nature and gives us the capability to create a map of where the bus has been so we could actually map out our bus routes," says Bob Blalock, Technology Coordinator at Houston County Board of Education.
The new school bus camera system will be installed on a Houston county bus Friday.
They'll run will a trial of the new system for 2-weeks.
