Cheers echoed through the halls of Northside Methodist Academy Wednesday afternoon.
Third grader, Conner Lokey, is finally home. He has been out of school since October Battling T-Cell Leukemia ALL, but this isn’t the first time Conner took on disease.
Conner had his first bout with cancer when he was only three-years-old, but this time around the disease was even harder to fight off.
“Doctors told us that there was a 99.9 percent chance that he would die, but the ICU director told us that there was a 100 percent chance,” recounts Alicia Lokey, Conner’s mother.
But after months of treatments and fighting for his life, Conner walked out of the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, something that friends and family can only describe as a miracle.
Finally back home, on Wednesday, Conner made a special visit to his school where his classmates gave him a hero’s homecoming.
