Cotton farmers may be thinking about the cold, but local sesame seed farmers cannot forget this summer’s rain.
Sesame seeds may not be very profitable, but farmers say they are easy to grow.
The crop thrives in hot, dry weather and can be planted along side cotton. Another benefit is that it does not strip nutrients from the ground, meaning farmers can plant the same field immediately.
While farmers are still experimenting with the sesame seed, they say the future looks bright.
