Officials are doing away with parents applying for their child to be considered for Magnet Schools.
The new system will be based on standardized test scores, grades and conduct.
Dothan City School Board officials say this will give more students the chance to attend magnet school if they would like to, and it would take the pressure off parents who can't get to the application or make the deadline.
School board officials agree.
It's all about what's best for the student.
"We try to push them, help them to be ready for whatever step they take. Hopefully all of our kids are going to go to college or they're going to go to the workforce or something but you know they're our leaders of tomorrow so we want to make sure we prepare them" Joey Meigs, Principal at Carver Magnet School.
Students going into kindergarten or out of system will have to apply.
