A South Florida man allegedly attempted to trade a four-foot alligator for a case of beer on Tuesday.
Wildlife authorities say the man took the animal from a park. It is not clear why he thought the store clerk would accept the animals as payment.
A customer called police and the suspect was arrested.
The man has been charged with possessing, illegally taking and attempting to sell an alligator. If convicted, he faces up to six months in jail for each charge. He also faces multiple fines.
