The Mayer Building on Foster Street may have a new occupant- Houston County. In an effort to reign in costs and reduce energy, every department in the administrative building is relocating for the ESCO project.
At the Dothan Downtown Redevelopment Authority meeting on Wednesday, the board voted unanimously to lease the newly acquired Mayer Electric Building to Houston County.
Houston County Commission chairman Mark Culver says the county plans to lease the building from the DDRA and use it for its temporary location.
The Mayer Building is a block away from Houston County's administrative building. Culver says employees and the public will be able to use the same parking they have been using.
He explained that the primary goal for the temporary move will be working to make the Mayer building conducive to public operations such as selling car tags and licenses.
Houston County now has a lease agreement from the DDRA, but the county commission still has to approve the lease and make the final decision to sign on.
