AL National Guard Feels Effects of Shutdown

The Alabama National Guard is feeling the effects of the ongoing government shutdown.

Drills have been canceled and paychecks are delayed.

The guard is also having a difficult time buying supplies and repair parts.

The "Pay Our Military Act" allowed for the recall of most full-time guard personnel.
Those workers will be paid during the shutdown.

Part-time members who do one weekend a month a two weeks of training aren't so fortunate.

Officials say the guard will answer the call if needed but the longer the government is shut down, the more likely mission readiness will be degraded.
