The film “12 Years a Slave” will be added to high school curriculum nationwide in September 2014.
Montel Williams worked with the national school boards association to distribute the Oscar nominated film and book.
The film tells the story of a black man who was kidnapped in Washington in 1841 and sold into slavery.
This is not the first time Williams has championed a film for education. He also had the 1989 Civil War film ‘Glory’ distributed to public high schools.
