Racism is at the center of a funding debate in Geneva. Last night the Geneva city council severely cut money to the Will Jenkins Community Center. Back in the 1950's, the facility was called the “Colored Community Center.” There are still a large number of African Americans who use that facility. Some people are saying the decision to cut funding is racist.
"Bury your head in the sand if that's what you want, but we have racism here. Speak how you speak to others but you know it’s there and you know we do," said John Hughes, Geneva City Councilman.
Geneva Mayor Philip Carter denied racism accusations. He says funds were "cut" due to an extremely tight budget.
