Award-winning actress Ruby Dee died at her home in New York, Wednesday.
The 91-year-old actress' career spanned seven decades on stage and on screen.
Dee won an Emmy and Grammy award for her work.
Some of her film credits include "the Jackie Robinson story,” “a raisin in the sun,” “does the right thing" and "jungle fever."
In 2007, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "American Gangster."
Dee often played alongside her late husband, actor Ossie Davis.
The two were also prominent figures in the civil rights movement.
