Peanut Festival Gears Up for Opening Night

Peanuts, peanuts and more peanuts. That is what is in store for Peanut Festival attendees, however, there is more than what goes into the National Peanut Festival that just the Wiregrass’ well-know crop.

Some exhibitors say that the community’s effort is what holds the festival together.

Paint, glitter and construction paper colored the booths in one of the festival’s exhibit buildings. Helpers hustled to put the finishing touches on their peanut festival booths.

This year, a group of area clubs pulled together to help an organization which spends its money helping others.

The bright yellow booth with the large Peanut Butter Statue belongs to the Wiregrass Food Bank and volunteers that helped decorate the space say they see it as a way to help those who help others.

The community must play a large role considering the festival has welcomed people from all over the country for the past 70 years. This year, over 150,000 people are expected to walk through the gates.
