Today Wallace Community College students gave nurses and other medical staff free manicures.

The event is part of an effort to promote the importance of hand-washing and the lives it can save. This week is international infection prevention week.

A Flower's Hospital employee tells us other ways the hospital is working to fight infections.

"We talk about the flu which is out there in the community, offer flu shots, encourage flu shots and just basically just want to give back to the staff because everyday they are working hard to prevent infections," says Darla Silvent, Director of Infection Control at Flowers Hospital.

Flowers employees say the hospital goes through rigorous training to ensure the building remains clean and patients stay healthy.
