A suspected hit and run drunk driver in Destin who tried to make his getaway was eventually found hiding in a Fort Walton Beach backyard due to the combined work of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Fort
Walton Beach Police Department, and an OCSO K9 Unit.
The OCSO got a call around 5:30 p.m. January 4th from a woman who said a gray Nissan had rammed her pick-up truck on Harbor Boulevard in Destin and then kept going in the westbound lanes. She was not injured.
The car entered Fort Walton Beach where an officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver kept going, eventually crashing into a yard on Vaughan Street and running away.
OCSO Deputy Tony Kelly and K-9 “Drako” began a track at the
driver’s door and followed it about a half mile to Ventura Street. K9 Drako began pulling hard near the backyard of 259 Ventura, jumped a brick fence and engaged a man matching the suspect’s description who was hiding in shrubs on the back side of the fence.
37-year old Jeffrey Fallin of Jacksonville was taken into custody by the Fort Walton Beach Police Department on multiple charges, including DUI. Fallin also faces a charge of Hit and Run - leaving the scene of an accident with property damage - by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
