Franklin County Prisoner Allegedly had Forged Release Documents

Months before two inmates escaped from a Franklin County Prison, another inmate reportedly tried to do the same thing.

Forged court papers were allegedly filed for Gerald Joe in January. He is serving a life sentence also at the Franklin Correctional Institution.

Joe was convicted of killing a man during a drug deal in 1999. Documents bearing the signature of a judge reduced his 30-year sentence to 15-years.

A clerk reportedly became suspicious of the document’s wording and alerted a supervisor. The inmate was not charged in the incident.
