Local athletes got the chance to go for the gold today as they competed in the 2014 Special Olympics.
Law enforcement officials started the torch run at Westgate park and ran to Dothan High School where the games began.
Parents and caregivers cheered on their Olympians and athletes say they are glad to have their support, on and off the field.
"These two young ladies, i asked them to go to prom with me, to be my date. And what did they say? Yes. And i had so much fun with them, " said athlete Brandi Deese.
Events in today's special olympics included softball throwing, a fast walk and running.
