Samson Tigers win 2A Girls State Championship

(WTVY)-- Another trip to Birmingham is successful for Head Coach Chad McKnight and the Samson Tigers.

After running through the South Regional, the Lady Tigers walked out of the BJCC in Birmingham victorious after a 69-65 victory over Sand Rock.

This marks the second State Championship in three years for Samson and the fourth State Title in school history.

"We found a way to win and that's what we kept talking about in the huddle," said Coach McKnight. "I think that we really implemented the Samson Strong philosphy today and I want to quote the great Meatloaf singer.... 2 outta 3 ain't bad."

The Tigers were led by two of the best players in the state, LaTascya and LaTora Duff. The twin sisters scored 56 of the Tigers' 69 points.

Samson High School has now won State Championships in 2006, 2007, 2016, and 2018.
