Providence Christian Eagles eye Volleyball State Title

(WTVY) -- Days after raising the trophy at the Super Regional Tournament in Montgomery, the Lady Eagles of Providence Christian were back to work preparing for the State Championship Tournament.

Providence beat Bayside Academy for the Super Regional Title, one year after losing to Admirals in the Satte Championship Final. That win by Bayside Academy marked 15 straight State Championships won by the Admirals.

The Eagles open the State Tournament Wednesday with Pleasant Valley, which will be their first step towards a difficult run at a State Title.

"We will face a 4 seed that is (52-8)," says Providence Head Coach Bill Oldfield. "Pleasant Valley is a pretty awesome team, so we will just keep playing our best."

"I know that as long as we play our mindset and play to the best of our ability we will beat anybody there," says Middle Hittler Jordan Hollis. "But we know anybody can beat us there too so as long as we play our game I know that we can win."

Providence Christian is the only Wiregrass team in Class 3A at the State Championships in Birmingham.

G.W. Long, Ariton, and Goshen will represent the Wiregrass in the Class 2A bracket. Rehobeth and Carroll are in for Class 5A. Enterprise is the only Wiregrass team in the Class 7A bracket.
