Dothan to Host CrossFit Competition: The Merge Games

DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) Eagle Eye Outfitters is proud to be partnering with CrossFit Embrace and World Camp CrossFit (of Albany, GA) to host the premier CrossFit competition in the region, The Merge Games, formerly known as Embrace the Gauntlet. The Merge Games will be held, June 3-5, at the Dothan Civic Center. Athletes will be competing to win more than $25,000 in cash & prizes.

Commonly asked, what is this CrossFit movement really about? CrossFit is a fitness regimen that was developed over several decades. Greg Glassman, CrossFit's Founder and CEO, was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. He then created a program specifically designed to improve fitness and health. CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity.

The idea behind The Merge Games was developed by two CrossFit enthusiasts. Landon Brazell and Kris Morrill were hosting two separate CrossFit events in the Southeast region, Embrace the Gauntlet in Dothan, AL, and South Georgia Throw Down in Albany, GA. Their vison was to join the two events together to create a premier competition to draw other CrossFit enthusiasts to the Wiregrass area for one highly competitive and impressive CrossFit throw down. Brazell shared, “It has been exciting to see The Merge Games develop over the past several months and we are excited to see such an elite competition take place here in Dothan.” Brazell and his wife, Keisha, opened the first CrossFit Gym in Dothan in 2010, CrossFit Embrace. As of today, there are six different CrossFit Gyms located in Dothan in addition to many others in the surrounding areas.

Over the course of the weekend, The Merge Games is expected to host over several hundred participants who will compete at the Dothan Civic Center in four different divisions. Scaled, RX, Masters, and Teen Divisions. CrossFit registration is open until May 31, and athletes can register by going online to:

If you are looking to be entertained, to learn more about CrossFit, or for a family-friendly event the weekend of June 3-5, spectators are encouraged to come and watch some of the most impressive and competitive athletes in the south throw down in the Circle City.
