DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) The Dothan Education Foundation put on it's annual fundraising event at the Dothan Civic Center Tuesday night. Legendary football coach Bobby Bowden was the highlight of the night.
The event raised money for the Dothan Education Foundation to provide funding to boost student achievement, build teacher morale, and enhance support for the Dothan City Schools.
Bowden coached at Florida State for 34 years and is known for bringing his faith to the football field to teach young men the foundations of life as well as make them not just good athletes but better people in the future.
Earlier Tuesday Coach Bowden and Wtvy Sports Reporter Noah Mindel sat down to discuss how speaking to the people of Dothan is a type of homecoming for the legendary coach.
Bowden says, "There is no place like home, so every summer I go up to Birmingham and stay about 10 days. And every time I go to Birimginham it is always through Dothan. And it is wonderful o talk to some people because these people weren't there when I was there. They probably heard about me I guess but they don't know so at least I get to tell them tonight."
