(Tampa, WTVY)- Media day for the 2017 College Football Playoff NAtional Championship kicked off at 9:00 AM ET with the Alabama Crimson Tide taking the stand first.
Head Coach Nick Saban, Linebacker Reuben Foster, Offensive Lineman Cam Robinson, Defensive Lineman Jonathan Allen, Quarterback Jalen Hurts, Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and brand new Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian were at their own individual podiums at the Amalie Arena in Tampa while the rest of the team and coaches were at tables around the arena.
Sarkisian took over for former Offensive Coordinator, now Head Coach of the FAU Owls Lane Kiffin earlier this week and Saturday was the first time the media had access to Sarkisian to ask him questions.
When talking about the offense, and working with true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts, Sarkisian said, "I am trying to put together a game plan that is conducive to his strengths, and is conducive to the strengths of the players on our team. The schemes on our team and then coaching them. And trying to put him in a position to be successful so come Monday night he can play fast, play confident, and make good decisions to throw the ball accurately and on time and make the proper checks and do all of those things in a big game and not get caught up in the moment." Sarkisian will be calling the offensive plays for Alabama for the first time this year.
Kickoff for the 2017 National Championship game between (1) Alabama and (2) Clemson will be 8:17 PM ET at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on January 9, 2017.
