UNDATED (AP) -- Top-ranked Alabama had little trouble winning its season opener.

The Crimson Tide opened their national championship defense with a 52-6 dismantling of No. 20 Southern Cal. True freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts ran for two TD's after hitting ArDarius Stewart for scoring passes of 39 and 71 yards.

Hurts fumbled away his first snap after coming in late in the first quarter for redshirt freshman Blake Barnett, who struggled in his first two drives after becoming the youngest Tide quarterback to start under coach Nick Saban.
