TROY, Alabama – The defending Sun Belt Conference champion Troy Trojans will make a minimum of two nationally televised appearances in 2018 as Troy and the Sun Belt Conference release the league football schedule on Tuesday.
Troy will play host to Georgia State on ESPNU and the “Battle for the Belt” at South Alabama will be televised on ESPN2. Additionally, Troy’s game at Nebraska will likely be slotted for a national broadcast, while the inaugural Sun Belt Championship Game will be televised on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
Under head coach Neal Brown, Troy enters the 2018 season tied for the eighth most victories nationally over the past two seasons after winning 10 games in 2016 and 11 games last season. The Trojans are also one of just 16 teams with a multi-year bowl winning streak intact and Troy will carry the nation’s fourth-longest active winning streak of seven games into the 2018 opener.
Troy opens the season with three non-conference games including the highly-anticipated season opener against Boise State in the newly renovated Veterans Memorial Stadium on Sept. 1. The remainder of Troy’s non-conference schedule features a home game against Florida A&M on Sept. 8 and road games at Nebraska on Sept. 15 and at Liberty on Oct. 13.
The Trojans open Sun Belt Conference play on Sept. 22 at ULM in the first meeting between the two schools since 2015. Troy opens the home portion of its league schedule the following week against Coastal Carolina (Sept. 29) before the Thursday night ESPNU showdown with Georgia State on Oct. 4.
Following the trip to Liberty, Troy heads to Mobile on Tuesday, Oct. 23, looking to reclaim the “Battle for the Belt” against rival South Alabama on ESPN2. Troy renews its rivalry with Louisiana on Nov. 3 in The Vet before traveling to Georgia Southern on Nov. 10.
Troy hosts Texas State on Nov. 17 on Senior Day at The Vet before wrapping up the regular season on Nov. 24 at Appalachian State. The inaugural Sun Belt Conference Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1, on the campus of one of the two division winners.
Television coverage and game times for the first three weeks of the season will be announced in the coming months, while the broadcast network and game times for the remaining games will be set 12 days prior to each game. Dates and times for games are subject to change due to network television.
