Western Japan's Tottori Prefecture is famous for its fried chicken.

Each year locals hold a festival, and this year, they went for a new world record for the most fried chicken served at one time.

Work began early in the kitchen.

They started before sunrise and worked eight hours straight.

Their goal was more than 2,800 pounds.

That was far above the current record of over 2,300 pounds, which also was set in Japan.

A huge stainless steel container was prepared to meet Guinness's condition that the chicken be in one serving.

They passed the old record, then kept going.

A Guinness representative announced the new world record of 3,373 pounds of fried chicken.

Visitors weren't complaining because they got to eat the chicken for less than half-price!
