Woman killed after car overturns into creek near Andalusia

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WTVY) — A woman died Wednesday when the car she was riding in overturned into a creek along U.S. 29, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Troopers said the driver reportedly lost control after driving over a patch of ice.

Troopers responded to the crash at 1:45 p.m. The victim, Tressa Mechell Richards, 42, from Brewton, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver, Norma Jean Perkins, also from Brewton, was taken to Andalusia Regional Hospital with minor injuries, troopers said. She was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand AM. Troopers said two more passengers, Regina Kay Stanford and a 6-year-old child were also taken to the hospital.

The crash happened on U.S. 29 about 10 miles south of Andalusia.

Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate.
