DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - For the past twenty years a group of people have organized a way to give people in need a hearty meal for Christmas.
They call it "Turkeys from Heaven" and they are in desperate need of turkeys to reach their goal.
Time is running out for people in need to receive a full course meal this Christmas.
The distribution day is Saturday, but they are about one thousand turkeys short.
The meals will include a grilled turkey, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert.
They go to people in need that are recommended by different organizations.
"It’s all individual referrals where somebody says, “I have a family in a real bad way” either through a medical tragedy or poverty or whatever the case may be there’s lots of reasons why a family just couldn’t afford a meal like what we all take for granted." Says Co-Founder Harry Hall.
Organizers will begin cooking and distributing the meals on Saturday, but say you can still donate or purchase a turkey from any Dothan Publix location at that time.
Donations can also be sent via PayPal on the “Turkeys from Heaven” Facebook page.
You can also drop a check made out to “Turkeys from Heaven” to any Service First bank in Dothan.
They currently only have 1,402 turkey of their 2,500 goal.
