TROY, Ala. (WTVY) – Troy University’s Student Veterans Association will be hiking for a cause on Nov. 11 through its annual fundraiser, RUCK-A-THON.
The event begins at 12:30 on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Troy University track. All proceeds from the event will be donated to this year’s philanthropy, “Troy for Troops Foundation Scholarship.”
The event will be a four-hour relay-style walk-a-thon, with teams of five participants. One person must be walking the track at all times with a 30 lb. military style backpack, called a rucksack. The team that walks the most laps will win prizes, and games will be held throughout the event for those who are not walking.
“In order to continue with our deeply-rooted military traditions, we provide comradery amongst our service members with projects meant to both serve them and their community. It’s an excellent opportunity to continue give back to the public; that which our members have already volunteered previously to protect.” said Reeves Johnson, SVA President
“The Student Veterans Association is looking forward to our third annual Ruck-a-Thon. We see it as an opportunity to provide those in our community an opportunity to “walk in our boots” and to have fun for a great cause,” she said.
The Troy for Troops Center hosts social events and community service projects in order to provide camaraderie among student veterans as well as strengthen the bonds between veterans and the community at large.
