The Janice Hawkins Cultural Arts Park is named after the university's first lady and visionary, Janice Hawkins.
The students say it is more than just an art building.
"It's kind of like we're creeping out of the shadows a little bit, and being able to show what we are capable of, and all the great art that our faculty and students are able to do, and what we can do in the future," said senior graphics design major, Kellen Crookham.
"The inspiration you'll get to see and to constantly just be around in that space.. I think it's going to be very beneficial for the rest of the students." said senior Fine Arts Major, Jamall Holmes.
The new facility will feature art galleries from world renowned artists… and an outside portion consisting of a green space, amphitheater and interpretive art pieces.
"I think that troy, Alabama actually is one of the best and biggest centers for the arts in this state. I don't think people realize that... but they are going to realize it now. I believe they'll be tons of people who come here to see this that will see the other things in Troy that exists," said University First Lady, Janice Hawkins.
A formal dedication and concert for the arts center will be held Friday, November 4th at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public.
