DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Tipping is tricky especially during the holidays, because some people are looking for a little extra cash. Deciding who to tip can be difficult.
Here are 3 questions you should ask yourself before tipping.
1) How often do you use the services?
2)The quality of the service?
3) And what’s an acceptable tip?
It’s good to remember those who give you services throughout the year for example hairdressers, waiters, masseurs, and those who tend to your lawn.
As a general rule of thumb you should tip your hair dresser half of the service fee or $20 minimum.
For waiters half of the bill is a decent tip around the holidays depending on the restaurant.
Masseurs should receive and extra $10-$15 extra. Lastly yard guys depending on the size of the yard. For smaller yard $10 is acceptable and larger yards around $20 - $50.
Some workers can't receive money like postal carriers but a small gift valued around $10 is acceptable or a card just showing your appreciation.
According to Consumer Reports housekeepers are at the top of the holiday tip list with 56-percent of people who regularly use their services tip them.
Garbage collectors are the least likely to receive tips this Christmas. Only 8-percent gave them a tip.
If you choose not to tip, a card or thank you note are always acceptable to show your appreciation to those who take care of you throughout the year.Just a reminder this is the season of giving.
