TROY, AL (WTVY) A weeklong online fundraising competition will help support Troy University’s Campus Kitchen program, which feeds the needy in the local community.
The “Raise the Dough” campaign lasts from Feb. 19 until Feb. 26, with the funds used to pay for a freezer needed for food storage and weekly costs of food preparation and delivery.
TROY’s Campus Kitchen will compete against other Campus Kitchens across the country in the Raise the Dough Challenge.
All money raised through the website will go to TROY’s Campus Kitchen, and the school that raises the most money will receive an additional cash prize to be used in its program.
TROY's Campus Kitchen works to both reduce food waste and fight hunger in the community by re-purposing purchased, but unused food from the campus dining hall to prepare meals for local residents in need.
“In our first year we were able to serve 5,163 meals to the community,” said Jonathan Cellon, Coordinator for Service Learning and Civic Engagement at Troy University. “Through this program, students and other volunteers are directly helping the community.”
