The USDA has prepared its annual report known as "The cost of raising a child."
It estimates that the cost for a middle-income, married-couple with two children to raise a child born in 2015 through age 17 is an average of $233,610.
That's almost $14,000 a year, and up three percent from the previous year.
The report tracks seven categories of spending, including housing, food, transportation and clothing and is used to help court and government agencies estimate child-support costs.
Housing was found to be the largest expense at 29 percent of the cost.
