DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Dothan Police charged a man with Elderly Abuse after they found his mother in the rear compartment of a Penske moving truck.

Officers arrested 43-year old Jeffrey Eric Seay early Tuesday after 68-year old Elizabeth Allen used her cell phone to text friends who, in turn, called them.

Lieutenant Lynn Watkins believes Seay first took the phone from his mother early Monday but later returned it allowing her to seek help.

Watkiss says Allen appears to have been in the rear compartment of the truck for 16 or 17 hours before they found the vehicle behind Flying J Travel Center.

He says she received on scene treatment for dehydration but suffered no serious injuries.

Investigators say additional charges could be filed against Seay who is jailed without bond.
